Global Packaging Alliance Holds Annual Meeting in India

The Global Packaging Alliance (GPA), a worldwide consortium of medium-sized, independent packaging manufacturers, plans to strengthen its cooperation in the field of packaging design and development for global brands. Diamond Packaging (USA) and Kumar Printers (India) are now joining forces with Masterpack (South Africa) and Colorpak (Australia) in adopting the brandpack concept developed by the rlc | packaging group. Created in 2007, brandpack is the rlc center of excellence for complete packaging design.

At the annual GPA meeting recently held in New Delhi, India, management representatives from the nine member companies discussed the different market conditions in the worldwide network based on sustainability and quality of life issues. In the emerging countries, for example, the current trend toward plastic film packaging poses a serious problem for environmental protection. This is primarily due to the underdeveloped recycling systems in these regions. At the same time, there is a demand in these markets for sustainable packaging solutions and high-quality design for global brands. more

But in order to succeed and utilize the opportunity in the packaging sector, a proper planning while considering the existence of multiple stakeholders is crucial.

2. Food packaging markets are expected to grow exponentially in the emerging markets of the developing countries while the same are expected to maintain the current growth in the developed markets. Uflex Ltd. has been significantly contributing towards the packaging sector with its value added flexible packaging material.

3. With rising incomes, changing lifestyle and favorable demographics, the Packaged Food Industry has shown a remarkable growth of over 13 per cent per annum over the last few years. This annual growth is not only considered a big opportunity for the companies serving agricultural and several ancillary sectors but also a new gateway for employment, economic growth and quality of life in India.

4. New, innovative sustainable alternatives have replaced century-old business practices in an effort to improve firms’ sustainable efforts. Major retail outlets have released environmental scorecards, leading consumer packaged goods companies (CPGs) to partner with packaging suppliers who are able to report on, and are committed to improving, their environmental stand.

5. A number of Indian packaging firms today are innovating with packing trends for specialized products. Along with traditional packaging techniques, these firms are evolving with software technologies to speed up the packing process; maintain quality of products which are produced on a mass scale. With huge potential to innovate and experiment, Uflex Ltd. too has entered the innovative packaging trend.

6. The right combination of colors and smells are being taken into consideration so as to develop a packaging option that is most attractive to pets. Being on the edge of innovation, Uflex endeavors to be the first to come up with advanced products that cater to the changing demands of the packaging industry.
