Global Packaging Alliance Welcomes New Member During Annual Meeting in China

Packaging, its newest member, located in Zhongshan, China

The Global Packaging Alliance® (GPA) accepted ZRP Printing & Packaging, a folding carton manufacturer, as a new member at its annual meeting held last month in China. GPA representatives from across the globe have thus integrated another Asian partner who strategically fulfills GPA requirements in terms of service portfolio, target markets, and implemented technologies.

ZRP Printing & Packaging is one of China's leading folding carton manufacturers. With $300 million in sales in 2017, the company is responsible for many fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry megabrands, including P&G, L’Oréal, and Nestlé. Founded in 1978, the owner-managed company is well-known for high-quality packaging solutions with widespread market acceptance. Playing an active role in the development of digitalization, ZRP relies on smart packaging with comprehensive service expertise.

Global Packaging Alliance Holds Annual Meeting in Brazil

Global Packaging Alliance® Holds Annual Meeting
in São Paolo, Brazil
Emerging packaging trends are impacting brands, retailers, and consumers in new ways, and creating opportunities for packaging converters at the same time. Members of the Global Packaging Alliance® (GPA) discussed this and other issues during their annual meeting held in São Paolo, Brazil last month. Representatives from the global consortium of independent, medium-sized packaging manufacturers convened from all over the world to explore solutions to evolving packaging requirements.

Gonçalves, a leading supplier of cosmetic and health care folding cartons in Latin America, hosted the meeting at their newly-built, state-of-the-art Cajamar headquarters, located in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The building’s design ingenuity has transformed the space into a world-class reference for functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. The 54,000 m2 industrial plant supports 20+ production lines, with an arrangement of machines that contributes to a natural workflow. Technical and architectural solutions (e.g., reflective windows, thermo acoustic roof tiles, LED lighting) all improve the plant’s energy efficiency, which supports the ongoing commitment to sustainability shared by all GPA members.

Harry Voss, Former CEO, President, and Owner of Diamond Packaging, Dies at 78

Harry Voss
Diamond Packaging is deeply saddened to announce that Harry Voss, former CEO, president, and owner of the company, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016.

Harry joined Diamond in 1965 and was a powerful force in the packaging industry for over 40 years.

In 1973, he bought controlling interest of Diamond, and led its transformation from a company with 13 employees and $750,000 in sales to a global industry leader providing packaging products and services to Fortune 500 companies worldwide.

Harry’s fundamental business values: “Give the customer what he wants, when he wants it, made of the highest quality necessary, and charge what it is worth – nothing more and nothing less. That way he will be back tomorrow and you will be there to service him again.”

His presence will be missed yet always remembered. more

Global Packaging Alliance® (GPA) Welcomes New Partner in South Korea

The Global Packaging Alliance® (GPA) announces
partnership with Samwon Printing in South Korea.
The Global Packaging Alliance® (GPA) today announced that they have added a new partner by reaching an agreement with Samwon Printing in South Korea. GPA representatives convened from all over the world last month to evaluate which of several potential partners in Asia best complement the GPA’s packaging network in terms of management philosophy, technical capabilities, and markets served.

“With Samwon Printing we found a perfect fit within the GPA world,” said Hans-Christian Bestehorn, GPA spokesman and CEO of the rlc | packaging group, a GPA charter member. “Their willingness to share information as well their productivity orientation and technology park is a great benchmark for the Asian packaging market.”

Samwon Printing is a leading supplier of folding cartons in South Korea, with key clients ranging from food and beverage to the fashion and beauty industries. The company was founded by Mr. JC Won in 1983 and is known for its speedy lead time while maintaining global standards in quality. Samwon achieves this by following its strict philosophy of clean environmental practices and transparent management. The company has also had the distinction of receiving a ‘Medal of Honor’ from the Korean Government, the first ever given to a printing company in Korea. more

Increasingly shorter product cycles and reaction times are creating more challenges for globally harmonized packaging management. Members of the Global Packaging Alliance® (GPA) addressed this and other issues during their annual meeting held in Hanover, Germany and hosted by rlc | packaging. Representatives from the global consortium of independent, medium-sized packaging manufacturers convened from all over the world to discuss viable solutions to current packaging requirements.

“Swiftness is becoming increasingly important in our industry. Worldwide rollouts of new products need to be faster, secure, and standardized. Globally harmonized packaging management is the key,” explained Hans-Christian Bestehorn, GPA spokesman and CEO of the rlc | packaging group. “The goal is to supply packaging that reliably meets high-quality standards, offers unique added value, and is produced in accordance with the strictest safety regulations.” more

Which technologies can packaging manufacturers use to effectively help their customers fight product piracy? Members of the Global Packaging Alliance® (GPA) addressed this and other issues at their annual meeting held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the week of January 20. Representatives from the global consortium of independent, medium-sized packaging manufacturers convened from all over the world to discuss current packaging trends and technologies.

According to the latest customs report published by the European Commission, European Union (EU) customs officials confiscated nearly 40 million counterfeit products valued at nearly one billion euros ($1.3 billion) in 2012. This resulted in damages suffered by branded goods manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies in particular, some of whom are customers of GPA members. With this in mind, the GPA annual meeting addressed new security technologies and track & trace solutions for packaging production. more

Global Packaging Alliance Holds Annual Meeting in Brazil

The Global Packaging Alliance (GPA) recently held its annual meeting in São Paolo, Brazil, providing an ideal forum for its partners to review packaging industry and global market trends. The group also discussed ways to further support international brands with enhanced packaging solutions that align with their sustainability goals.
