How to Use the Recyclable Packaging Logo in Your Next Design

The Paperboard Packaging Recyclable logo can be used on
SBS and recycled paperboard packaging.

Does your brand want to show that purchasing your product is a more sustainable choice?

Communicating environmental benefits to consumers through on-product labeling may be the answer.

A 2016 report by Globescan & BBMG, “Five Human Aspirations and the Future of Brands”, details a fundamental shift in the marketplace towards authenticity, well-being, sustainability, and social purpose.

It reveals the Aspirational generation who combine "a love of style, social status, and sustainability values to shape new cultural norms and rewrite the rules of marketing."

Furthermore, nearly nine in ten (88%) say "I believe we need to consume less to preserve the environment for future generations."

Other studies suggest that consumers want brand owners to provide more environmental information on their packaging (Cone Green Gap Trend Tracker, 2012), or that recycling-related messaging influences purchases (Perception Research Services, 2011).

Brand owners can leverage these trends by including the free Paperboard Packaging Recyclable logo in their next package design.

Covanta Publishes Case Study on Diamond's Zero Manufacturing Waste to Landfill Initiative

Covanta published a case study on Diamond Packaging's
zero manufacturing waste to landfill initiative.
The biggest challenge faced by a company that’s defined itself as innovative and sustainability‐focused since 1911 is to remain on the forefront of green business operation.

After more than a century of sustainable business practices - in an industry where waste can quickly mount - making a difference often comes down to the incremental steps a company chooses to take.

Diamond Packaging chose the road less traveled, becoming the only American‐owned folding carton manufacturer to achieve zero manufacturing waste‐to‐landfill status: the gold standard of green business operation.

With the help of Covanta, as well as additional partners, the waste stream that leaves the Diamond Packaging facility eventually returns to it in the form of raw materials.

What is Energy-from-Waste (EfW) ?

This video explains the Energy-from-Waste (EfW) process.
Energy-from-Waste (EfW) video
Zero manufacturing waste to landfill is defined by Diamond Packaging as 100% landfill waste diversion through a combination of recycling and energy recovery solutions. In Diamond’s case it accounts for all waste related to the manufacture of folding cartons, including paperboard, plastic, metal, industrial waste, and regulated waste, with the exception of construction and demolition (CD) waste.

To achieve zero manufacturing waste to landfill status, Diamond’s two manufacturing facilities reduced their overall waste streams and increased recycling rates to approximately 98 percent. All remaining waste is sent for fuels blending or to Covanta Energy for Energy-from-Waste (EfW), eliminating the need for landfill disposal.

What is Energy-from-Waste (EfW)?

This video, produced by the ASME Energy Forum and Covanta Energy, uses colorful drawings, diagrams and step-by-step explanations to explain the EfW process.
